DIY Paper Flowers

Paper flowers look pretty and colorful and are great paper decorations any given day. Flowers in any form have the ability to instantly brighten up and add beauty to everything. No wonder they are the most popular thing crafters want to replicate through their creativity. So, in this DIY craft tutorial we tried out a unique and beautiful paper flower design that we instantly fell in love with. This handmade flower is made using a single piece of paper with a simple technique of paper folding. The template used for making this flower is super easy to replicate so that anyone can make this paper craft at home and use it for decoration, gifting, DIY cards and scrapbooks etc.

So, let’s get started.

Materials required:

• Cardstock
• Ruler
• Pencil
• Scoring Tool
• Marker Pen
• Scissors
• Glue Gun

Instructions:

1. Take a cardstock of size 3 cm * 3.5 cm and draw a line at the center along its length.
2. Draw and cut out the edges from one side to make a U shape template.
3. Take another cardstock of size 2 cm * 5 cm and draw central lines from both sides.
4. Now fold the cardstock through its central line into half of its length.
5. Draw and cut out a U shape similar to the previous template. Make sure to cut the edges from the open side and not from the folded side.
6.  After unfolding the template, you will get a long elliptical shape cutout a shown in the picture.
7. Take another cardstock of size 9 cm * 7 cm and draw 2 lines, 3 cm apart from the edges
8. Similarly draw a horizontal central line along its length to get 6 blocks.
9. Mark the mid points on horizontal central line for each pair of top and bottom adjoining blocks.
10. Using these mid points as guide draw lines of 1 cm extending into the adjoining top and bottom blocks.
11. Cut out one of the corner blocks as shown in the picture.
12. Use the U shape template we made earlier to trace on each of the remaining 5 blocks.
13. Similarly, draw the elliptical shapes by tracing the cutout you have.
14. Cut out the outer U shape on all the 5 blocks to give shape of petals of the paper flowers.
15. Now, use a scoring tool to make creases on the inner trace on the petals as shown in the picture.
16. Fold the petals along the crease to give the flower petals a 3D effect.
17. Gather the petals together, pinch them towards the center and then use glue gun to stick them in place
18. Lastly, draw and cut out small circle for the center of the paper flowers.
19. Use a marker pen to make small dots on the circle for detailing and then stick it on the flower.

And this is how we made beautiful handmade flowers using a DIY paper flower template that you can easy replicate and make in different sizes and colors. You will need some sort of thick paper to make these paper flowers in order for them to hold the proper shape. For this paper craft tutorial, we have used cardstock but you can play around with different types and textures of paper to see what works for you.
